RIO DE JANEIRO, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Every athlete dreams of winning an Olympic medal, especially the 10,500 athletes who will compete in the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Those skillful enough to climb the podium will be rewarded with medals that benefit from an innovative design, made from environmentally friendly materials, including recycled metal.

The idea, pioneered by the Rio 2016 design department, was turned into reality by the Brazilian Mint, who manufacture all the country's currency. It also produced the medals for the Rio 2007 Pan-American Games and the Rio 2011 Military World Games. For Rio 2016, the Mint produced 5,300 medals, with each weighing around 500 grams.

As per tradition, the medals have on one side the Rio 2016 logo and the five Olympic rings surrounded by a laurel wreath while the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, is in effigy on the other side. The Paralympic medals will also contain the phrase ""Rio 2016 Olympic Games"" inscribed in Braille.

Furthermore, Paralympic athletes will also contains small bells inside them, allowing visually impaired athletes to ""hear"" their medals. The gold medals will have a louder sound, while the silver and bronze medals will be slightly weaker.

The theme of sustainability will also stretch to the medal presentation boxes, which have been made out of certified wood, coming from plantations that have proven to be environmentally sustainable and socially responsible.

The podiums themselves have also been constructed by organic materials and will be repurposed as furniture after the Games. Enditem

" Foreigners traveling by train during the upcoming Spring Festival rush will face extra delays because they must have their IDs checked and buy their tickets at counters rather than from ticket machines. WANG JING CHINA DAILY

Rail companies need to improve the service they offer to foreign travelers, an expert has said ahead of this year's Spring Festival rush.

Support services for foreigners, including ticket sales and ID checks, need to be upgraded to match China's rising status on the world stage Cheap Air Force 1 Black UK , said Yang Hao, a professor in rail transportation management at Beijing Jiaotong University.

The difficulties involved in purchasing and picking up tickets lie in an unfriendly booking system, proving that railways are not run commercially as if in an open market, said Yang.

"The demand by foreign travelers for train tickets has grown along with the strengthening of China's economy in the world," he said Cheap Air Force 1 07 Mid UK , "but the railway authority has not paid sufficient attention to catering to this small group, because more than 1.8 billion passengers use the rail service each year."

China Railway Corp adopted stricter measures to verify foreign passengers' identities on March 1 last year. Foreigners must have their identities checked at ticket counters in railway stations by presenting a valid ID, such as a passport, before purchasing or collecting their tickets.

"I prefer to take high-speed trains because they are punctual, but I will not try to book train tickets because I know it's too hard to get one Cheap Air Force 1 07 Low UK ," said Luke Coates, a 25-year-old Australian who has lived in Beijing for four years.

Coates estimated it would cost him half a day to get a ticket, considering the long lines at booking offices and his journey to and from the rail station. The thought of doing it made him "quite exhausted", he said.

For the same reasons, Jay Wang flies when he visits Nantong Cheap Air Force 1 07 High UK , Jiangsu province, to visit his Chinese relatives during Spring Festival to save the time he would spend in railway stations.

Travel agencies that book train tickets for foreigners have also noticed a trend away from rail travel. "It always takes some time for foreign clients to pick up tickets at counters since no automatic machine allows them to get tickets or get their passports checked," said Yan Xin, a senior manager at the public affairs department of Ctrip, an online travel agency.

Professor Yang said support services such as instructions inside railway stations also need to improve. But he believes it will be a long time before foreigners can expect high-quality rail service.

However Cheap Air Force 1 07 UK , consider the situation of foreigners with a hyphen in their names. The 12306 website, the official online rail ticket booking platform, does not allow a space or hyphen in travelers' names. A Canadian traveler, Louis-Pierre P. The China Property Forum is an economics and finance forum dedicated to discussion of Chinese and global real estate markets, including China house prices, global house prices, housing affordability, and the likelihood of a global house price crash or China house price crash. Is there a Chinese housing bubble? Will house prices crash, boom or stagnate? Is it better to buy using a home loan, or rent and save the difference? How might a credit crunch or peak debt environment impact Chinese property prices? Is the Chinese property market a pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme? Can house prices rise forever as people bet on future gains, refinance their mortgage and borrow against equity, or can we find a more sustainable long term approach to managing the Chinese housing market? These are the type of questions we hope to address here, at the China Property Forum, the premier real estate site for property bears, bulls, investors, and speculators! Whether you're a Property Investor, First Home Buyer (FHB) or you're a happily renting tenant, this forum has something for everyone. The forum includes a blog feature, so members may create their own property blog.
