Joe Leach helped North Canberra Gungahlin reach their first semi-final for four years in the Australian Capital Territory Konica Minolta T20 Cup yesterday (Sunday). The Worcestershire all-rounder made a telling contribution with ball and then bat as his side won away to ANU by five wickets with four balls to spare. ANU won the toss and scored 144-3 in their 20 overs with opener M. Bennett scoring 79 not out. Leach took the new ball and, although he did not pick up a wicket, his quota of four overs only cost 26 runs. He then went in at number three with only four runs on the board and top-scored with 39 from 31 Hypervenom Phantom balls with two boundaries. NCG were 72-2 at the half-way stage and, although Leach departed one run later, the Northies held their nerve to reach their target in 19.2 overs. Leach tweeted: "Great work from NCG to qualify for their first Hypervenom Phantom FG semi-final in four years." He spent the previous day in the field on the opening day of a ACT first grade clash with Tiempo Legend V FG Ginninderra which will be concluded next weekend. Leach again made a meaningful contribution with figures of 2-28 as Ginninderra were bowled out for 212 although they recovered from losing half their wickets for 84. NCG reached 36-1 by the close. Geelong City skipper Richard Oliver also continued his excellent form as his side overpowered visiting Lara Cricket Club in the Geelong Advertiser Cup T20 Division One clash. Worcestershire opener Oliver put Lara into bat and they were restricted to 132-6 in their 20 overs. Oliver had a rare bowl and his medium pacers produced figures of 1-18 from four overs. The 25-year-old then hammered an unbeaten 76 Messi soccer shoes and shared an opening stand of 108 with Steve Anastasiu (48) as Geelong reached their target in just 14.2 overs. |
