No one needs to remind Will Muschamp of Ron Zook's finest hour as UF coach, 10 years ago last week in Tallahassee. Especially now. Fired a month earlier, Zook exited Bobby Bowden Field — christened Kobe 8 Shoes for sale earlier that November night — on his players' shoulders after the Gators shocked FSU 20-13 in 2004. "I kind of heard that story," Muschamp deadpanned Monday. "Appreciate you rehashing it for me. "It is what it is. I mean that ain't gonna help us win the game, I can assure you of that." The Gators rolled to a 52-3 win Saturday Basketball Shoes for Sale against Eastern Kentucky to become bowl eligible. Now, in a move he never anticipated when he arrived four seasons ago, Coach Boom will try to channel the Zooker and end his stint with the Gators in stunning fashion against the unbeaten Seminoles. Bowden's 2004 squad was ranked No. 10 and had two losses when Zook's Gators won in Tallahassee for the first time since 1986. lRelated UF's Will Muschamp coaching, teaching his Gators until very end FLORIDA GATORS UF's Will Muschamp coaching, teaching his Gators until very end SEE ALL RELATED 8 Coach Jimbo Fisher's reigning national champions have appeared vulnerable pretty much all season, but always seem to find a way to win. In fact, the Seminoles' last loss — 27 games ago — was to Muschamp's Gators, 37-26 during the 2012 regular-season finale. "It was a great game, they had an outstanding football team, and we played well." The Gators are 10-13 since the 2012 win, but have won three of four games and are only 7.5-point underdogs on the road to an FSU squad that has staved off upsets in four of its past five games. "Love my chances, love our chances," UF sophomore defensive end Alex McCalister said after a two-sack performance against Eastern Kentucky. "We've got the whole team clicking." The Gators have struggled to put it together in their biggest games — save a Nov. 1 rout of Georgia. But UF's defense should test FSU and quarterback Jameis Winston, the reigning Heisman winner. FSU has beaten four teams — Clemson, Louisville, Miami and BC - ranked in the top 17 in total defense by an average of six points. The Gators' defense is ranked No. 11 and has found its footing after yielding 1,122 yards during UF's first two SEC games (Kentucky, Alabama). "He's going to see a pretty good defense Saturday," UF defensive end Jon Bullard said. The Seminoles (11-0) also will see a team playing with a lot of emotion. There Kevin Durant V Shoes are players' coaches, and then there is Muschamp. The Gators have not hidden their fondness for UF's outgoing coach. Bullard wrote "Mus" and "Champ" on his eye-black strips Saturday, explaining afterward how Muschamp was there for him when Bullard's grandmother died last season. "I really appreciate it," Muschamp said of his players' public support. "You spend a lot of time with these young men and that's part of your job when you want to be a football coach. It's not just about Saturday afternoon. It's about Monday through Friday. It's about doing a lot of things that people have no idea that your job entitles. "That's something that, you know, you enjoy being a mentor, slash father figure, slash friend, slash coach. You wear a lot of hats in our job and that's part of it." A Zook-line send-off would a fitting ending. But Muschamp said he is not getting caught up in the moment, or the notion of a Hollywood ending. "It doesn't really change for me. It's preparation," he said. "You turn on the tape and you don't get real emotional. I can tell you that." |
